Wax Carve a Silver Ring
Wax Carve a Silver Ring
Tell me about it
Wax carving is a technique used by jewellers to mould, carve and craft pieces of jewellery in a material that is cheap, easily shaped and forgiving. Wax allows makers to be creative and test ideas before committing to metal.
In this unique class, we will show you the techniques on how to carve jeweller’s wax into a ring. The wax will then be sent off to cast in silver using the lost wax casting process. We will then finish the rings in our workshop and post them back to the hands that carved them!
Can I do this class?
This is for complete beginners. It would also suit someone looking to expand their existing jewellery-making skills. We love it when you try different techniques!
What happens?
You’ll be shown how to sculpt and carve jeweller’s wax, learn about the casting process, and carve a ring ready to be cast in silver. We cost this class based upon the weight of the ring once cast. During the class, we will regularly weigh the wax to let you know if you are over or under the limit. However, if you fancy creating something a little heavier, we can always calculate additional costs as a rough quote on the day, and confirm what the actual costs will be with you before sending to cast.
What do I need to bring?
You don’t need to bring anything with you as we will provide all the equipment and materials needed. Everyone will have their own space with access to all the tools required to carve a ring.
If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly!
