You’ve mastered bezel and claw setting, now it’s time to take things up a notch. Welcome to Intermediate Stone Setting at Vanilla Ink CIC in Glasgow, where you’ll explore the next stage of your jewellery journey and build the skills that make your designs stand out.

Over two full days, you’ll dive into flush and pavé setting under the guidance of a Master Goldsmith and Setter. You’ll get detailed demonstrations, hands-on practice, and plenty of time to refine your technique. By the end, you’ll have the confidence and control to bring even more precision and finesse to your designs.

Can I do this class?

This class is made for makers who already know their way around the bench. You’ve got the basics down and now you’re ready to sharpen your edge. If you can solder, saw, and file with confidence, you’ll fit right in.

It’s the natural next step after our Intro to Stone Setting class [or similar experience elsewhere]. Not sure if this is your level? Just give us a shout and we’ll help you figure out the best fit for your skills.

What happens?

Day 1: Flush Setting

• Learn how to make and maintain a flush setting tool

• Learn how to flush set and finish for a round stone

• Learn how to flush set and finish for a square stone

Day 2: Pave Setting

• Learn the preparation and maintenance of tools

• Learn to pave set in a straight line

• Learn star setting

This weekend course will give you a fantastic understanding of intermediate-level setting that will give your designs and technical ability a boost. Experience tells us that you’ll come up with all sorts of brilliant ideas with your new skills!

At Vanilla Ink, we believe in teaching at the most affordable level. That means we teach traditional hand pushing and don’t rely on all the fancy kit that you need to sell a vital organ for. We are proof that top-class, high-end setting is achievable in an economic manner.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a sketchbook or similar for taking notes. Please note that glasses/optivisors are mandatory for this class [get in touch if you’re unsure]. Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.

We will provide all materials, which include metal and stones. You will each have your own bench where we have access to all of our essential stone setting tools but do feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable.
