Sand Cast a Silver Signet Ring
Sand Cast a Silver Signet Ring
Tell me about it
Signet rings are on the comeback! But we don't want to give you the chance to make something plain and boring, we want to play with FIRE and be THRILLED by the process of creating your very own signet ring! And the best thing about this process is that the finish on your signet will be properly unique! Use the beautiful, natural texture and surface that sand casting creates and finish in a way that truly makes the ring your own.
Can I do this class?
Yes, you can do this class. Sand casting is one of those sessions that we can teach you, no matter if you're an absolute beginner or not. Once you're shown how, it's easy to pick up, plus we'll be here to help out and guide you to the best results.
What happens?
For this class, prior knowledge of your finger size is essential. If you don't know an exact size, an educated guess will work, or ask around and maybe try someone else's ring on who knows what size they are. If you really don't know, just take a wild stab and we can sort it all out on the day.
But if you want to be sure, we have loads of wee ring sizer thingies in the workshop. Either swing by the studios or we can post one out to you. Get in touch to arrange.
On the day, you'll choose your signet style from our options [round, oval, rectangular, square] where we can check your finger size. Then watch as your tutor takes you through the process of creating the sand casting mould before things get hot as we play with fire! You'll melt down silver until it can be poured into your mould, leaving behind your very own signet! Finally, your tutor will talk you through the different options for finishing.
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring a sketchbook or something for taking notes etc. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools and materials required to make the ring. You won’t need anything else as we provide the equipment needed for this session.
Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.
If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly!
