Make a Silver Sea Glass Ring

Make a Silver Sea Glass Ring
Tell me about it
Join us at Vanilla Ink CIC in Glasgow for our Silver Sea Glass Ring Class, a relaxed, hands-on jewellery-making experience inspired by Scotland’s stunning coastline. Under the guidance of our expert tutors, you’ll learn how to transform ocean-tumbled sea glass into a one-of-a-kind silver ring using traditional techniques.
Perfect for beginners or anyone curious about jewellery making in Glasgow, this six-hour class covers everything from shaping and soldering to creating a bezel and setting your unique piece. No previous experience needed, just curiosity, creativity, and a love for the sea! You’ll leave with a beautiful handmade ring and the confidence to keep creating.
Choose to bring your own piece of found sea glass, or select from our curated collection gathered from the West Coast of Scotland and Banff Beach, home to our sister site The Smiddy. Not all sea glass is suitable for setting, but don’t worry, our tutors will help you decide if yours is a perfect fit.
Can I do this class?
Absolutely! While this session is suitable for beginners, it’s a great next step if you’ve already joined one of our introductory jewellery workshops. Creating a bezel and setting sea glass can be a little tricky, but our friendly tutors will support you every step of the way - no one gets left behind at Vanilla Ink.
What happens?
You’ll be introduced to the core skills of jewellery making, including:
Sawing and annealing
Shaping and soldering
Building a bezel and setting your sea glass
By the end of the class, you’ll have your own silver ring - a piece of the Scottish coast you can wear and treasure.
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring a sketchbook or something for taking notes etc. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools and materials required to make the ring. You won’t need anything else as we provide the equipment needed for this session [unless you are bringing your own sea glass].
Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.
If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly!
