Let your imagination run wild with this introduction to the magical world of silver clay!

Join us at Vanilla Ink CIC in Glasgow for a relaxed, hands-on class where you’ll learn to turn this alchemic material into beautiful, wearable jewellery. Guided by our expert tutors, you’ll discover how to shape, texture, and fire silver clay, transforming it from soft clay into solid fine silver.

You’ll get 10g of silver clay to start, giving you the chance to experiment with texture, pattern, and form. If you find yourself completely hooked (which happens a lot!), you can buy extra clay on the day.

Invented by Mitsubishi Materials, silver clay is made from fine silver dust, water, and an organic binder. When fired, it magically turns into pure silver. We think it’s basically witchcraft 🔥

Can I do this class?

Absolutely! This class is perfect for complete beginners who’ve never tried silver clay before, as well as jewellery makers with some experience looking to explore a new medium. Our friendly tutors will guide you every step of the way, making sure no one’s left behind.

What happens?

You’ll learn how to:

• Work with metal clay in its raw state

• Form, shape, and refine your designs

• Torch or kiln fire your clay

• Finish your pieces using polishing and texturing techniques

By the end of the day, you’ll have created your own beautiful silver jewellery and the know-how to keep experimenting with this magical material.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a sketchbook or something for taking notes etc. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools required to make jewellery. You won’t need anything else as we provide the equipment needed for this session. We will provide you with 10g of silver to start off with. This is usually plenty but if you would like to order more, you can purchase extra from your tutor. This can be as little or as much as you are willing to spend.

Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.

If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly!
