Step into a slower rhythm and discover the ancient Japanese art of Mitsuro Hikime, a wax-making technique that creates stunning, organic forms. This handmade wax produces beautiful ripples, folds, and striations that mimic natural textures like bark, waves, and flowing fabric.

Join us at Vanilla Ink CIC in Glasgow for this relaxing Taster Experience, where you’ll learn how to make Mitsuro Wax from scratch, experiment with shaping and stretching it, and form your own unique jewellery design. It’s tactile, mindful, and unlike anything else.

While you won’t take home a finished piece on the day, don’t worry, we’ll cast your wax creation in silver after class and send it to you once it’s ready.

Can I do this class?

Yes! This class is open to complete beginners and experienced jewellers alike. If you love peaceful, therapeutic processes and the joy of seeing organic forms emerge through your hands, you’re going to adore this one. Our tutors will keep things calm, steady, and supportive as you explore the material at your own pace.

What happens?

You’ll learn how to:

• Make Mitsuro Wax from scratch

• Manipulate and stretch it to achieve its signature rippled texture

• Shape and refine your design ready for casting

You’ll end the session with a finished wax piece, and once cast and polished, we’ll post your completed silver jewellery straight to you!

Note - should you choose to have extra pieces cast, your tutor will be able to weigh the waxes, then estimate costs for you.

Do I need to bring anything?

You don’t need to bring anything with you as we will provide all the equipment and materials needed. Everyone will have their own space with access to all the tools required to create the pieces.

Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.

If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly!
