Discover the magic of enamelling in this colourful Taster Experience at Vanilla Ink CIC in Glasgow. In this fun, hands-on class, you’ll learn how to add vibrant colour and intricate patterns to metal using enamel, a beautiful and versatile material that opens up endless design possibilities.

Your tutor will guide you through a range of introductory enamelling techniques, from preparing your metal and applying colour to firing your pieces and finishing them with cold connections. There’s plenty of time to experiment before creating your own unique pendant and matching earrings to take home.

Can I do this class?

Of course! This class is ideal if you’re brand new to jewellery making or simply keen to explore colour and texture in a new way. We’ll start with simple test pieces to get you comfortable, then help you develop your own ideas as your confidence grows. You’ll be surprised how much you can achieve in just a few hours.

What happens?

You’ll learn how to:

• Prepare and clean metal for enamelling

• Apply enamel powder and understand how it reacts when fired

• Fire enamel safely and evenly using a kiln

• Use cold connection techniques like riveting to complete your design

By the end, you’ll have created your own colourful pendant and earrings, learning skills that open the door to endless creative possibilities.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a sketchbook or something for taking notes etc. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools required to learn to enamel. You won’t need anything else as we provide the equipment needed for this session.

Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.

If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly! Also, we’ll have two enamel kilns firing at 800C! It may be chilly outside but it’ll be tropical in here!
