Repairing jewellery is the bread and butter of being a goldsmith. As long as people wear jewellery, there’ll always be repairs to make - it’s the circle of life, innit?

This full-day Pro Class at Vanilla Ink CIC in Glasgow takes you through the most common repair techniques every working jeweller should have in their toolkit. From ring sizing and re-tipping to chain and bracelet repair, you’ll gain practical, real-world skills that’ll keep you busy (and profitable) between commissions.

We’ll show you the greatest hits of repair, giving you both confidence and competence to take on customer work with ease.

Can I do this class?

This class is perfect for working jewellers and confident makers with a solid understanding of bench skills. If you can make jewellery, you can break it, and more importantly, you can fix it again.

Whether you’re self-taught, studio-trained, or somewhere in between, you’ll leave with professional tips that’ll improve your repair results and boost your bench efficiency.

What happens?

You’ll learn how to:

• Approach and diagnose common jewellery repairs

• Resize rings through soldering, stretching, and fusing

• Unseat and re-tip stones using several professional methods

• Carry out delicate chain repairs for different styles and conditions

• Repair bracelets and other everyday wear items

By the end of the day, you’ll have developed practical, job-ready repair skills that you can immediately apply to your own workshop practice.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a sketchbook or something for taking notes etc. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools and materials required to finish jewellery. You won’t need anything else as we provide the equipment needed for this session.

Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum. If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Repairing jewellery is fiddly!
