Jobbing and Jewellery Repair
Jobbing and Jewellery Repair
Give me the info
Repairing jewellery can be the bread and butter work of a goldsmith. As long as there’s folk making jewellery, there’ll always be people out there who will either break it or wear it away. Circle of life, innit? We’ll show you the greatest hits of repair which will allow you to add new skills to your locker.
Can I do this class?
This class spans both amateur and professional jewellers. You’ll need to have a good understanding of jewellery making. If you make jewellery, you can break jewellery… then fix it again. Which is the whole point of this class.
What happens?
Learn how to fix the most common jewellery repair jobs
Ring sizing [soldering, stretching & fusing]
Unseating stones & re-tipping [several methods]
Delicate chain repair [various scenarios]
Bracelet repair
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring a sketchbook or something for taking notes etc. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools and materials required to finish jewellery. You won’t need anything else as we provide the equipment needed for this session.
Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum. If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Repairing jewellery is fiddly!
