Hey, I was wondering if anyone had advice about what kind of light box is good for taking picture of jewellery. So far I have been using only day light to help capture my jewellery, but living in Scotland means there is never that many of them. Iv seen some really expensive light box online that I begrude paying, so and advice would be great :)

Or even diy tips on how to make your own.

Cheers

Nic

Hi Nicola

I use a large sized medical dog collar (bought from the vetinary surgery), sounds a bit random I know but with good light it really looks great and diffuses the light beautifully.  What I do is lay it side down next to the window on a good day or you could use the daylight bulbs, place my background paper down inside and lay out my jewellery piece...because the opening is so wide you can stick your camera right inside so there is no lighting glare or anything like that.  The camera setting I use is macro, I leave enough space round the image for cropping when I am editing my shots...they turn out not too bad and the collar cost me 5 squids!!  i've also just mpved house and changed my lightbulbs to daylight LEDs andthey really help if I need to take pics at night as I don't need to use the flash - as this always causes glare and yellowy colouring to the silver.  I've attached on of my photos that I have done using this method....turns out pretty nice!  Hope this helps :0)

Hi Nicola,

My boyfriend bought me a mini studio thing for my xmas and I don't thing it was that expensive. Sure he got it off ebay. But it includes a photography soft box, two lights and changable background colours. It's really great, the only downside is that it sometimes leaves a pink glare but this just needs a bit of camera fiddling to sort out. Sure it was only about £50! It's similar to ones you get in jessops for hundreds.

I'll try find out where he got it from.
