Nicola Reed
Created by Kate Pickering

Nicola Louise Reed explores the notion of vanity and takes inspiration from the rigmarole of the daily routines women create for themselves.
“The only cure for vanity is laughter, and the only fault that is laughable is vanity.” Henri Bergson
Inspired by the above quote, Reed was interested in using a mark-making element to recreate the humorous aspects of make up, such as loose powder breaking inside its owner’s handbag and accidental spills.
Using sterling silver, freshwater pearls, vintage finds and textiles, Reed's work in general strives to go against the grain
of conventional jewellery with collections being mainly concept-driven. Usually delicate, with a mix of contemporary design and vintage details, her work is intrinsically feminine.
Having being interested in the sentiments of jewellery from a young age, designing and making her own came naturally. Now, creating from her workshop in Aberdeen, Reed is working on an exhibition and gallery collection basis as well as undertaking personal commissions.

Nicola is currently working on a fascinating collaboration with textile designer Sara Nevy, I recommend taking a look! http://re-workedproject.blogspot.com/
